What is Post Processing?
Post Processing of metal-AM parts often is necessary to achieve the required physical and cosmetic properties, including surface quality, geometrical tolerances and mechanical properties. Post-processing steps include heat treatment, EDM or sawing to separate parts from the build plate and support structures, surface finishing by machining or abrasive grinding, and heat treatment to relieve stresses.
What is Support Removal?
Support Removal includes manual and automatic processes to disengage parts from support elements created during a build, providing stability during the AM process. Because support removal can be a time-consuming process that extends build time and necessitates use of additional material, some AM systems and software offer features that result in minimal or no support use.
