What is Bound-Powder Metal Extrusion?

Bound-Powder Metal Extrusion describes a process where bound cylinders or other shapes of metal are extruded through nozzles to form parts, which are then sintered to burn away binding agents and fuse the part material. Systems employing this process may be had for fractions of the cost of laser-based AM systems while offering more simplified and safer—no risk of powder explosions or inhalation—operation, and few or no supports. Laser-based and other AM systems do, however, offer finer detailing and tighter tolerances.
