GE Additives’ AP&C to Provide Ti Powders to Airbus

December 3, 2021

APandC-Airbus-GE-Additive-Titanium-PowderAP&C, a GE Additive company, announced a new agreement where the company will provide titanium powders (Ti-6AI-4V) to Airbus for use in metal-additive manufacturing (AM) applications. The multiyear agreement to provide Ti-6AI-4V powders deepens AP&C’s working relationship with Airbus, which dates back several years.

AP&C provides large-scale production of plasma-atomized titanium, aluminum and nickel powders, and has grown its titanium-powder capacity to more than 1,000 tons/yr. via production in more than a dozen powder lines at two manufacturing sites.

“The adoption of metal AM in aerospace continues to gather momentum,” says Alain Dupont, AP&C chief executive officer. “To scale metal AM, acceleration can only be achieved by sharing knowledge best practice to lower risk and increase stability. One way we have supported Airbus in recent years, for example, has been to help its inhouse AM team establish its own methods and processes to qualify Ti-6AI-4V powders.”
